The University of Maryland Eastern Shore and its Rural Development Center have formed partnerships with Jet Green Group, of Beijing, China and its Maryland incorporated subsidiary U.S. Orchid Laboratory & Nursery, Inc. to research, propagate and market orchids.
The program is modeled on the University's successful five-year Farmers Access to Regional Markets (FARMS) venture with Bell Nursery in Burtonsville, Maryland. Borrowing a page from the successful business model of poultry industry giants such as Perdue Farms, Inc., the Rural Development Center and its partner, Bell Nursery, provide network growers with plants, supplies and instruction.
